Shear strength
The shear strength of an adhesive is almost identical to its cohesion. Shear
strength means the maximum shear load divided by the shearing area before
the initiation of the test. An adhesive strip is adhered with one end to a polished
metal plate with the other end hanging free. Various weights can be hung from
the strip to determine the maximum load that can be held by the adhesive without
it shearing away from the plate. The identical test can be performed at different temperatures to determine the short-term or long-term temperature-resistance.
Silicone
Silicone is a non-metallic element. Silicone compounds are dissolved in solvents,
or suspended in dispersions, and then applied to paper, film or vinyl. A siliconised surface repels liquids and adhesives.
Splice
The joining together of materials, such as film and paper, to form endless rolls.
Splice
Many adhesive tapes have an excellent age-resistance. The storage temperature should be between 18°C and 25°C with a relative humidity between 40% and 65%.
